VIVIEN MASTERS

b. 1987 in Auckland, New Zealand

Growing up in New Zealand surrounded by dark native forest, Masters’ developed an early affinity with nature and the unknown. Her classically informed figurative paintings of physically and emotionally isolated women draw from the mystery and beauty of the natural world, and it’s relentless cycles of birth, death and decay. Masters’ emotionally charged pieces offer introspective views of melancholy, strength and vulnerability.

Masters graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Visual Arts from the Auckland University of Technology in 2009. Her work has been exhibited across New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

She is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
